“No external files found in \EXTERNAL\ Operation cancelled.” Message Appears While Importing Postings Into Sage Pro ERP General Ledger

This knowledgebase article explains why following message may occur while importing postings into Sage Pro ERP General Ledger (GL):

“No external files found in \EXTERNAL\ Operation cancelled.”

Solution or Workaround

This issue occurs because the file cannot be found. Verify that the file is located inside the External folder, in the root directory of the Sage Pro installation. Also, verify that the file format is correct. The format should be as follows:

  • [xx]GLTR[nn].[ext]

*where [xx] refers to the external application, as defined in the System Manager data dictionary, [nn] refers to the company number and [ext] refers to an acceptable file extensions (DBF, TXT or XLS) The following formats are currently supported:

  • Microsoft Visual FoxPro 5, 6, 7 and 8 (DBF)
  • Comma delimited ASCII text (TXT)
  • Microsoft Excel Worksheet (XLS)
