“The file is not in a recognizable format.” Message When Opening an Exported Excel File From Sage Pro

The following message appears when opening an excel file created from a exported report or datadrill:

The file is not in a recognizable format.

Solution or Workaround

This occurs when exporting reports or datadrills using Microsoft Excel 2007 and then opening the file using a older version of Excel. To resolve the issue, during the export process remove the .XLS file extension in the Export File Name field located in the Select Export Type Screen before opening the file.

Once this is done a xlsx file is created. If this file needs to be opened on a version of MS Office prior to 2007, you need to apply the compatibility pack offered by Microsoft: to allow opening the new XLSX format.

Please note, Microsoft Office 2007 is not supported for Sage Pro 7.5 or earlier.
