Why do “Error 1” Messages Occur?

Q: This article explains the common causes and possible solutions for “Error 1” messages occurring in Sage Pro ERP.

 

A: Listed below are common causes of “Error 1” messages:

  1. Old program files were not deleted prior to conversion.
  2. The temporary file folder is set as a system file and read-only on a workstation. This setting can only be changed with the correct workstation and network administrative access. Follow the steps below:
    1. Right-click the temporary file folder (C:\TEMP); the TEMP Properties screen should appear.
    2. De-select Read-only.
    3. Click Apply

  3. There is incorrect pathing information in the Sage Pro database. This can be verified in the following tables:
    • SYCDATA
    • SYCPATH
    • SYSDATA
    • SYCINST
  4. The operating system temporary directory (C:\WINDOWS\Temp) may contain the following files, which must be deleted. Ensure that both application and system files can be successfully reindexed once this is complete:
    • AC_*.* files
    • .MEM files
    • .TMP files
    • .FKY files
    • .TBK files
    • .ERR files
    • 0*.* filesImportant
      Exclude any 0*.* files that exist in the DocOnDisk directory, within the Sage Pro installation folder. These should not be deleted.
  5. Issues with the network environment can be a factor:
    • Proper network access and permissions
    • Open connections, resources and files
    • File locks
    • Administrative rights – read, write and shareable
    • Network communication issues, such as dropped packets
  6. A corrupted database or installation is affecting the program, screens and forms. This could be caused by a computer virus, power blackout or power surge. Refer to the list below for some suggestions on how to resolve this scenario:
    • Update virus scanner and perform scan of virus on system
    • If this is a Microsoft Visual FoxPro installation, rebuild the database container.Related Reading

    • Restore from a recent working backup of the Sage Pro installation
    • Before reinstalling the product and patches, delete everything except for the following files from the Sage Pro installation folder:
      • .DBF files
      • .CDX files
      • .FPT files
      • Prodata*.* database container
  7. Sage Pro has not been installed into a subdirectory within the root drive. For example, if Sage Pro has been installed to drive letter “C” instead of “C:\Pro73,” Error 1 will occur.Related Reading

    If none of the solutions mentioned above resolve this issue, gather more information to help identify the cause:

  • Verify if the same error occurs in the sample company
  • Examine the error log to obtain specific information on the error
  • Verify if an Administrator level user on the network operating system and in Sage Pro also receives the error
  • Investigate when the error began occurring
  • Observe the environmental and product changes when the error initially occurred.
